Herbal Foundations Classes

Sage Woman Herbs & Clinic is pleased to announce our much anticipated Herbal Foundations Program.

There are two ways to take herbal education classes through Sage Woman Herbs. You may sign up for the entire program or take any class individually. Simply click on the “Add to Cart” button to the right of each class to sign up and pay for each class individually.

Location: All classes, except for the herb walk in June, 2010, will be held in The Forum. The Forum is located at 108 E. Cheyenne Road, upstairs from the Sage Woman Herbs & Clinic.

Class / Rocky Mountain Slide Presentation

In this lively class we will take a look at some of the important local plants in the lower elevatioins of the Mountain West and discover what makes them tick.

You will learn to identify the herbs by recognizing their distinguishing characteristics and learn how to use them for healing.

Class / Colds, Fevers and Influenza

With winter just around the corner, learn how you can prepare yourself and your family for the cold and flu season. Learn to distinguish between a cold, Influenza or pneumonia, and how to treat each one.

In this class, you will learn how to build up your immune system to avoid catching colds or even deadly infections. We will also delve into the topic of superbugs, or MRSA, deadly mutated bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics.

You will learn about biofilms and other protective measures these bacteria take to stay alive. Antibiotics are generally useless in fighting these bacteria, but there are herbs that can destroy them. This valuable information itself is worth attending this class.

Class / Medicine Making Part I

Immerse yourself in this hands-on class, where you will learn to make your own herbal medicines for yourself and your family! You will be making herbal oils, salves and poultices in Section I.

In this last preparations class, you will round out your medicine making skills by learning the correct way to prepare medicinal teas, decoctions, medicinal syrups and capsules.

This fun, informative class will guide you through the steps to regain the health of your lungs and respiratory system using diet, herbs and special therapies.

Class / Tongue Analysis

Did you know that a simple inspection of your tongue in the mirror each morning can give you a good idea of your state of health? Based on 5,000 years of Chinese medical history, the analysis of the tongue and nails can be an excellent indicator of your health.

It's true. The color of the tongue and coating of the tongue is indicative of your health. Cracks and certain marks on the tongue can indicate specific issues to address, such as heart/circulatory problems, lung related problems, the health of the liver and gall bladder.

Cracks in the body of the tongue will point to different systems of the body depending on their location. The depth of the cracks is associated with the severity of the health concern.

This is the first part of a two part class taught by Clinical Herbalist Valerie Blankenship of Sage Woman Herbs.

This class is optional for students of the Sage Herbal Foundation Certificate Program and not included in the tuition for that program.

Upon successful completion of the Tongue Analysis class and passing an oral exam, students are eligible to receive a Certificate of Basic Tongue Analysis. A $25.00 fee applies. Please inquire.

Class / Face and Nail Analysis

Do you know what your face and nails might be telling you and others about the state of your health? Based on 5,000 years of Chinese medical history, the analysis of the face and nails can be an excellent indicator of your health.

For instance, if you have black lines in your nails, you may have internal bleeding. You will learn fingernail type, color, and marking Indications that will verify health indicators and nutritional deficiencies.

This is the second part of a two-part class is taught by Clinical Herbalist Valerie Blankenship of Sage Woman Herbs.

This class is optional for students of the Sage Herbal Foundation Certificate Program and not included in the tuition for that program.
