Actions: counter-irritant, analgesic Indications: this white, crystalline substance is derived from the stems and root of the Camphor tree native to tropical and subtropical regions of China and Japan. Camphor is most commonly applied externally as a counter-irritant and analgesic liniment for the relief of muscular aches and pains, especially arthritis. It is often used as a chest rub for bronchitis and lung congestion. It may also be used to heal cold sores.
Caution: do not use internally. Preparation and dosage: essential oil, use 10-30 drops blended into 1 ounce by volume of a base oil, such as sweet almond or grapeseed, for use topically. The crystals may be used by melting them directly in a hot bath (use sparingly!) or melt 1 tablespoon into 1 cup of oil and add 1 ounce of beeswax to make a stimulating salve.
Caution: It may be irritating if used on young or sensitive skin.
