Actions: the roots are cholagogue, anti-rheumatic, laxative, tonic, anti-bilious, hepatic. The leaves are tonic, diuretic, laxative. Indications: dandelion root is very effective as a liver cleanser, making it useful for treating jaundice, the yellowing of the skin that occurs as a result of a seriously malfunctioning liver. The root is historically used as an anti-cancer agent. The leaves are a gentle, effective diuretic, that is rich in potassium, unlike pharmaceutical diuretic agents, which can cause a depletion of this mineral.
Preparation and dosage:
Tincture: take 1 teaspoon, 3 x daily.
Capsules: take 2 caps, 3 x daily.
Tea: blend 1 or 2 teaspoons of the herb into 1 cup boiling water. Steep 10 minutes. Drink 3 x daily.
