Actions: expectorant, antiseptic, diaphoretic, mild bitter, anti-parasitic, demulcent Indications: it is soothing to the bronchial lining, making it a good choice for cough remedies. It is also expectorating, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic, additional virtues useful for clearing up chest infections. In the past, it was considered a reliable herbal medicine for tuberculosis. It has been used traditionally as a tonic herb for upset stomach, lack of appetite and is also very effective in the treatment of parasites and giardia.
Preparation and dosage:
Tincture: take 1 teaspoon, 3 x daily.
Capsules: take 2 caps, 3 x daily.
Tea: blend 1 or 2 teaspoonsful of the root into 1 cup boiling water. Simmer 10-20 minutes. Strain. Drink 3 x daily.
