Actions: Emmenagogue, anti-spasmodic, alterative, nervine, hypotensive. Indications: Black Cohosh is valuable herb that has a powerful action as a relaxant and a normalizer of the female reproductive system. It is beneficial in cases of painful or delayed menstruation. Ovarian cramps or cramping pain in the womb will be relieved by Black Cohosh. It is also excellent for the treatment of rheumatic pains, but also in rheumatoid arthritis, osteo-arthritis, and in muscular and neurological pain. As a relaxing nervine it may be used in any situation where those actions are specified. It has also been found beneficial in cases of tinnitus. It is excellent in treating rheumatism and neuralgia. Few cases of rheumatism, or conditions depending upon a rheumatic basis, will present, which will not respond with Cimicifuga. Headaches caused by eyestrain, and associated with a sensation of stiffness in the ocular muscles, or a bruised feeling in the muscles of the frontal region, will be relieved by this root. Cimicifuga plays an important part in women's health. Because of its special affinity for the female reproductive organs, it is an efficient medicine for restoring suppressed menses. Preparations: Tincture: take 30-60 drops of the tincture three times a day. Capsules: 2 caps, 2 x daily. Tea: simmer 1 teaspoon of roots in 1 cup of boiling water for 10 minutes. Drink 3 x daily.
