Blue vervain herb, Verbena hastata; officinalis cut and sifted
Actions: Nervine, sedative, anti-spasmodic, diaphoretic, hypotensive, galactagogue, hepatic. Indications: Vervain strengthens the nervous system at the same time it relaxes tension and stress. It is used for depression and the blues and may be used to help in seizures and hysteria. Because of it's diaphoretic properties, it can be used in mild fevers. As a hepatic remedy it helps to relieve inflammation of the gall-bladder and jaundice. It may be used as a mouthwash to prevent tooth decay and gum disease. Preparations & Dosage: Infusion: pour a cup of boiling water onto l-3 teaspoonfuls of the dried herb infuse for 10-15 minutes. This should be taken three times a day. Tincture: take 1/2 teaspoon of the tincture three times a day.
